About the Artist

The Garden Gallery will show work by a group of artists who all share a love of the natural world and who take their inspiration or materials from their surroundings. Colourful interpretations (using a variety of media) of flowers, gardens, hedgerow plants, trees and landscapes form a common theme for the exhibition, including a display of hand crafted willow baskets.

Kate Langley writes: My recent work includes gardens, village scenes, riverbanks and trees, lovers walking in the rain and a French marketplace encounter. All show my love of colour, understanding of people in the landscape and my desire to tell a story.

Sheila Patrick writes: I make baskets and structures from Scottish and English willow, most of it unstripped, so the natural colours of the bark are a feature of my work, as is its distinctive aroma. I enjoy the process of using traditional techniques to transform the long, thin rods into unique three-dimensional forms.

Yani Homfray writes: I am inspired by the local landscapes, my travels and street scenes, but in particular by flowers and plants. The colours, textures and shapes conjure up different moods, and the play of sunlight and shadows suggest a bold and dynamic style for dramatic results.
